Rebecca A. Demorest, M.D., F.A.A.P., discusses pediatric baseball and softball injury prevention
As a non-contact sport, the risk for injury among young baseball and softball players may seem lower than the injury risk for other sports. However, as two of the most popular sports among young athletes, injuries, both acute and overuse, are common on baseball and softball fields across the country.
Most overuse injuries occur in the shoulders and elbows of young pitchers because they throw too many pitches or throw too hard without the proper mechanics, core and back strength, and time to rest.
Dr. Rebecca A. Demorest, pediatric and young adult sports medicine doctor at Webster Orthopedics, provides insight for RadioMD on how to help young athletes prevent baseball and softball injuries this season.
