Athletes of all ages, coaches, and parents should be aware of the symptoms and warning signs of a concussion. Caused by a traumatic hit to the head and common in contact sports such as football and hockey, or sports that do not require a helmet, including soccer, lacrosse, and basketball, a concussion that is not treated quickly and properly can cause prolonged symptoms.
